Homeschooling: Where Do I Begin?
Once you have made the decision to homeschool, understand that it is a lifestyle change and paradigm shift.
The Law
I advise all new homeschool parents to first check the homeschool laws for their state. The Homeschool Legal Defense Association website lists all of the laws for each state. Their website: www.hslda.org
Do Your Research
There is so much information about homeschooling available on the Internet. As you would any new endeavor, doing your research is an absolute must. There are things you will need to consider such as curriculum, learning style, homeschool style and more. It may seem daunting at first, but the more you research the more information you will have to make the right choices.
Join Support Groups
Joining a homeschool support group or Yahoo group is probably THE most important first step. Why? You will have access to hundreds of experienced homeschoolers who have "been there and done that." They can share curriculum choices, field trip ideas, and their successes and failures. More importantly, you can make social connections for your children. Also visit homeschool blogs.
